Walter Goodwin, a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Boronia who passed away in December 2021, has been recognised as a Rotary Foundation Benefactor having named the Endowment Fund of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International as a beneficiary of his Estate. The substantial contribution will ensure that Wal’s legacy will enable Rotary in general, and the Rotary Club of Boronia in particular, to continue its work in both the local and international communities.
The Rotary Foundation is a not-for-profit corporation that supports the efforts of Rotary International to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs. It is supported solely by voluntary contributions from Rotarians and friends of the Foundation who share its vision of a better world.
The Rotary Foundation operates under a unique funding model which provides for a perpetual capital resource which annually funds thousands of club projects all over the world through Rotary District and Global grants. To help strengthen club efforts and the outcomes of our projects on communities, the Foundation has identified six “Areas of Focus” as priorities for funding: Peace and conflict prevention/resolution; Disease prevention and treatment; Water and sanitation; Maternal and child health; Basic education and literacy; and Economic and community development.
Rotary Club of Boronia projects that have been supported by Foundation grants include: water projects in Papua New Guinea (Save Water Save Lives tank building projects); health and education support programs and projects in Fiji (Taveuni Eye Project, a Secondary School Scholarship Program, and education accommodation (classrooms and dormitories) projects); and education programs in the local community (ANZAC Commemoration Services); details of which can be found elsewhere on this website.
Thank you, Wal!
