Ride for Medical Research

The Rotary Club of Boronia has had a long-term involvement with this annual bicycle ride fundraising event.  Club members have been heavily involved with both organisation of and active participation in the event.

The 2019 Ride for Research in support of Australian Rotary Health involved 31 riders and support crew travelling approximately 600 kilometres over 6 days, from 17th to 22nd March.  Starting at Nar Nar Goon, the ride passed through Traralgon, Yarram, back to Traralgon, Glenmaggie, Sale, Maffra, Sale, Bairnsdale, back to Sale, Port Albert, Port Welshpool, Foster, Fish Creek, Cape Paterson, and Wonthaggi before finishing in Grantville.

Ride sponsorship and other donations resulted in more than $42,000 being raised by this year’s ride.  This amount adds to more than $1.1 million contributed to Australian Rotary Health by the ride over the last 33 years.

The funds raised by the ride this year will be directed in support of the Australian Rotary Health “Rob Henry Memorial PHD Scholarship” for Cancer Research.  Rob, a member of the Rotary Club of Boronia, was instrumental in organising this annual ride event for some 24 years.
