Ongoing support for Knox Infolink acknowledged …

One of the Rotary Club of Boronia’s major areas of focus in recent years has been ongoing support for the work of Knox Infolink.  This was recently acknowledged in a Progress report on Knox Infolink projects supported by the Rotary Club of Boronia provided by Infolink Centre Manager, Penny Robinson.

The Club’s support for Infolink’s programs has included:

  • Knox Community Christmas Support (KCCS) – the annual KCCS “Sharing the Joy” Appeal provides hampers of festive food and a selection of quality gifts for children and teenagers, to families and individuals doing it tough across the Knox City area.  The project supported 683 adults and 410 children for Christmas 2023.

As in previous years, Club members again volunteered their time in pick-up and delivery, sorting and ‘shopping’ roles.  Advocacy efforts by a Club member resulted in Australian Butchers Store donating $400 worth of meat vouchers to the project.

  • Connecting Kids to the Knox Community – Knox Infolink has designed a pilot program to provide children and young people (aged 5-18 years) in the Knox Community with access to sport and recreational activities.  During the period July 2023 to January 2024, the program has supported 18 children to participate in a local sport or leisure activity for one or two terms.

The Club financially supported the program with a $5,000 donation.

  • Boronia Community Breakfast Program – this program provides a free hot breakfast to those in need four days a week, on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at Boronia Progress Hall.  More than 4,200 breakfast meals were served over 118 sessions during the period 1 July 2023 to 30 January 2024, with an average of 35-40 guests attending each session.

Several Club members and partners support the program on a weekly basis, preparing and serving food, and chatting with the guests.  The Club also provided meal vouchers to ensure access to food at two local cafés during three weeks that the program was closed over the Christmas/New Year period.
