In view of the COVID-19 related restrictions, our Club Changeover event was an entirely different format to our usual celebratory luncheon or dinner. The Rotary Club of Boronia has been meeting online since early April 2020 and our Changeover, which was conducted at our normal weekly meeting on Tuesday, 23rd June, was no exception.
In the absence of outgoing President Rob Hilliar, (then) Immediate Past President Annette Haworth inducted Bernadette Vanderwolde as the 53rd President of the Rotary Club of Boronia in a pre-recorded video segment. Bernadette briefly outlined her plans and vision for the year ahead, which was greeted with a strong show of support.
Annette then presented Paul Harris Fellows to Club members Chris Karajas and Glenn Tippett (PHF with second Sapphire) for their service contributions to Rotary and the local community.
Following the meeting ‘formalities’, we all enjoyed some fun and frivolity by participating in a Trivia Session led by Quiz Master, Stephen Spiers. Our knowledge of local Rotary and community history, as well as our general knowledge, were all tested. Lance and Liz Deveson prevailed as “Trivia Buffs”, scoring 22 points out of a possible 34.
Although meeting on line, all present dressed for the occasion and looked very ‘spiffy’ in their formal attire. We were pleased to welcome our incoming Assistant Governor, Michael Finke, and look forward to seeing him at future meetings.
